Is a ketogenic diet safe for kidneys?

This concern mainly comes from people believing a ketogenic diet is high in protein, which can increase the occurrence of kidney stones and kidney damage. But this is not true. The ketogenic is high in fat and only recommends an adequate intake of protein. If you do have kidney problems, discuss these changes with your healthcare professional and monitor the situation  because everybody is unique and can respond differently. The kidneys clean the blood and flush out toxins and by products from metabolism, during ketosis it is important to keep well hydrated to keep the kidneys functioning optimally.
