What are the side effects of the ketogenic diet?

Many ketoers experience side effects when they first start the keto diet that are collectively called the "keto flu."  These are mostly the result of sugar withdrawal, electrolyte imbalances, and dehydration [1]. Luckily, they are easy to treat with fluids and diet adjustment. Other than that, this diet is generally well tolerated, and most dieters find that they are able to stick to this way of eating while also experiencing positive changes (increased mental clarity, reduced appetite and weight loss!)

But some ketoers also struggle with the keto diet even after the keto flu is over (usually within 2-3 week's time). They may experience keto breath, constipation, diarrhea, and sleep problems. These side effects are the result of raised ketone levels and a higher fat intake. To learn more about ketosis side effects and what you can do about it, click here
