Is MCT oil and coconut oil the same?

Although MCT oil is often extracted from coconut oil, and you might hear some coconut oil manufacturers saying their coconut oil is naturally high in MCTs, they are not the same thing. In fact, the Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFAs) found in each are quite different.

Coconut oil is made from 4 different fatty acids, but most of it is lauric acid (C12). While chemists classify this as ‘medium’ biochemists recognize it as acting differently than true biological medium chain fatty acids. When someone buys MCT oil they are looking for Capric acid (C10) and Caprylic Acid (C8) for fast and lasting energy and maximum cognitive benefits. Coconut oil has about 15 to 20% C8 and C10, while MCT oil is usually 100% C8 or C10. OurKiss My Keto organic MCT oilis 100% C8 making is a rapid and effective keto brain fuel.
