Can low-carb diets cause "carb intolerance"?

There is no evidence to show low-carb diets, including the ketogenic diet, lead to carb intolerance. However, just like the adaptation phase when getting into keto there will be an adaptation phase if you get out of it. Your sensitivity to sweet foods, including taste and insulin response, will have changed and you may even find sweet foods less mentally satisfying as receptors which trigger the pleasure responses in the brain will have been down regulated – but this is a good thing! As with all changes take it slowly, if you have been on keto for a while then binge on sweets and cakes, then you may feel sick and even a bit faint and dizzy as your body struggles to cope with the excess sugar.
