Best Low Carb Keto Desserts at Fast Foods

Best Low Carb Keto Desserts at Fast Foods

The moment you read the title of this blog post, you probably thought it was a joke. How the heck can you mix keto + fast food + desserts in the same sentence?

Even though we usually think of desserts, especially fast food desserts, as being very high in sugar and carbs, there are often a few keto dessert options at some of the most popular fast food restaurants.

Don’t get us wrong - they don’t sell any keto oreo cream cheesecakes at their restaurants or anything that is meant to cater, specifically, to the keto clan.

However, you don’t need to finish off your keto meal at McDonald’s trying to suppress a craving for dessert. In some cases, there are options.

We don’t want to get you too excited, though. There are restaurants that simply don’t have keto-friendly desserts (like pizza places). If you should think about packing your own dessert, we’ll tell you below.

What are Keto Desserts?

So, if you are following the keto diet, you’ve probably figured out by now that the idea of ketogenic dessert morphs the meaning of dessert altogether. We no longer need to think of ice cream and cakes as dessert, but rather we need to open our minds to new possibilities. Think - a crispy salad, no-sugar chocolate bars or other keto bars, berries, almond butter, and low-carb cookies.

The Best Keto Low-Carb Fast Food Desserts

McDonald’s

All of McDonald’s shakes, ice creams, and cookies are off-limits for the keto diet. We do have two options, however:

Apple Slices

Apples are usually off-limits for the keto diet because they are on the higher-end of the carbohydrate scale. However, it’s all about portions.

The apple slices are offered as a healthier alternative to fries and other sides, usually in the Happy Meal. But, hey! Us adults can enjoy them, too.

One bag of apple slices contain:

  • 15 calories
  • 0g fat
  • 4g carbs
  • 0g protein

Americano or Coffee (Take your Keto Creamer or Cocoa along with you)

To finish off a meal, you can have an americano or black coffee, which contain 0g carbs. If you want to add a different taste, take along some keto creamer or cocoa to make your own keto mocha.

Wendy’s

Summer Berry Burst Fruit Cup

Wendy’s offers a berry fruit cup - the perfect ending to a keto meal since it provides much-needed antioxidants.

One serving contains:

  • 20 calories
  • 0g fat
  • 5g carbs
  • 0g protein

Skinny Iced Vanilla Coffee (small) (not for everyone)

This is if you really want to indulge since it is a bit higher on the carbohydrate list. Also, keep in mind that it has artificial sweeteners, which you might want to stay away from on the keto diet, especially if you are having digestive issues.

One serving contains:

  • 70 calories
  • 5g fat
  • 6g carbohydrates
  • 2g protein

Burger King

Mott’s Natural Applesauce (with extreme caution)

Unfortunately, Burger King doesn’t offer any low-carb dessert options. The applesauce is the lowest-carb dessert option Burger King offers. If you choose to eat this, you will likely really have to to keep an eye out on your macros for the rest of the day.

One serving contains:

  • 50 calories
  • 0g fat
  • 13g carbs
  • 0g protein

Starbucks

Basically, all of Starbucks’ drinks can be considered desserts. Are any of these desserts low-carb? There are two relatively keto-friendly low-carb drinks at Starbucks:

Starbucks Double Shot/Blonde Double Shot on Ice

One serving contains:

  • 45 calories
  • 1g fat
  • 5g carbs
  • 3g protein

Cappuccino/Latte with Full-Fat Milk

The numbers don’t make it look like these are keto-friendly, but the carbohydrates come from full-fat milk. We always need to be cautious about how much dairy we are consuming in a day because of the number of carbohydrates it delivers, but it also delivers good fat and protein. Remember to clock in your macros.

One grande cappuccino contains:

  • 120 calories
  • 4g fat
  • 12g carbs
  • 8g protein

One grande latte contains:

  • 190 calories
  • 7g fat
  • 19g carbs
  • 13g protein

Any of the pure coffee drinks (Take your Keto Creamer or Cocoa along with you)

The pure coffee drinks don’t contain any sugar, so feel free to choose this and spice it up with your keto-friendly flavors.

Arby’s

Arby’s, like Burger King, has very limited keto-friendly dessert options. The dessert option lowest in carbs is:

GogoSqueeZ Applesauce (with caution)

One serving of the Gogo SqueeZ Applesauce contains:

  • 60 calories
  • 0g fat
  • 15g carbohydrates

Little Ceasar’s

Unfortunately, there are no dessert options at most Little Ceasar’s locations. Those that do exist are bread-based, so no keto-friendly dessert options here.

Chipotle

Like Little Ceasar’s Chipotle doesn’t offer dessert or non-nacho snack options on their menu.

Domino’s

Domino’s doesn’t offer any keto-friendly dessert options.

KFC

While there are several keto-friendly menu options, KFC doesn’t have any low-carb keto-friendly dessert options.

Pizza Hut

Like the other pizza places, Pizza Hut offers only one dessert option (apple pie) and it isn’t even close to being keto-friendly.

Dunkin’ Donuts

Unfortunately, virtually all of the Dunkin’ Dounut’s food menu options are off-limits (unless you request a breadless sandwich). In terms of desserts, however, we are going to have to turn to the drink menu. Here, the only low-carb drink options are:

Iced/hot Americano

This is a good reason to make sure you take along some keto creamer and keto cocoa along with you! You can turn your coffee drink into a dessert by mixing cream and/or cocoa and making your americano into a keto-friendly mocha.

One large Iced Americano contains:

  • 10 calories
  • 0g fat
  • 2g carbs
  • 0g protein

Subway

Subway only offers a few cookie options for dessert, and none of them are keto-friendly. You are better off bringing along your own cookies!

Five guys

Five guys is a great place to go for delicious keto bunless burgers, but not so much for dessert. However, some restaurants may allow you to pick some of the milkshake ingredients to make your own keto-friendly dessert. You don’t want to have a Five Guys milkshake, because the base they use along has 670 calories and 94 carbs.

Request Whipped Cream + Strawberries from their milkshake topping options

Ask for them in a separate bowl, and together you’ll have about:

  • 100 calories
  • 1.5g fat
  • 1g carbs
  • 0g protein

Conclusion: Fast Food Desserts Should be Rareties

As you’ve probably noted above, even low-carb fast food desserts push the limit with carbs for the keto diet. Remember that restaurant-bought desserts should only be indulged in rarely. To stay within your carb limit, you may need to limit your carb consumption even more for the rest of the day, or even it out over the next few days.
