Cheese-based sauces are always welcomed on a keto diet. They add lots of fat to meals and make everything tastier. Making these sauces is simple too. Just melt them in some heavy cream over medium heat and that’s it. Since all cheese sauces thicken once cooled, do serve them warm or reheat them in the microwave. Use this cheddar-flavored cheese sauce with steamed broccoli, cauliflower gratin, fried chicken, roasted asparagus, or almond flour gnocchi.

Keto Cheese Sauce

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 10 minutes

  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup cream cheese
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, 1-2 tablespoons, if needed



  • 1Combine heavy cream and butter in a saucepot.
  • 2Melt over medium-high heat.
  • 3Once the butter is melted, add the cream cheese and stir until it is melted.


  • 4Add the cheddar cheese and salt.
  • 5Reduce heat and simmer until all ingredients are well blended, for around 3-5 minutes.
  • 6Serve warm.

Cheese Alternatives


Everyone seems to have a different preference when it comes to BBQ sauce. If you think this recipe would benefit from a bit of tweaking, feel free to add (or remove) ingredients to your liking. Some find that adding mustard, chili powder, and paprika brings out the best of flavors. If you want to lower the sauce’s carb content, replace the Worcestershire sauce with coconut aminos. Keep in mind that this will result in a milder-tasting sauce.

How to Make

Make sure not to overheat any of the ingredients. Your goal is to melt the cheese into the heavy cream, not to cook it. Otherwise, you may end up with a scorched cheese sauce. If adding Parmesan, reduce the amount of salt you add.
